What does this mean for Community Marketplace Members?

The good news!

No matter what happens in Congress, your current health insurance is safe and sound for the rest of the 2017 calendar year, as long as you pay your premiums on time. Though this bill did pass the House of Representatives, it is not yet law. A bill does not become a law until it has passed both the House and the Senate, and is signed by the president. That has not yet happened. It is important to remember that Congress is still debating this issue.

How does the “repeal-and-replace” conversation taking place in Congress impact me?

For the 2017 calendar year, it doesn’t. As long as you keep your policy in force, your Community Health Choice coverage, and the amount you pay for it, will stay the same during 2017. If you qualify for subsidies through the Health Insurance Marketplace, you’ll continue to receive them. Even if you don’t qualify for subsidies, your plan will stay the same.

When should I be concerned about seeing major changes to my health insurance?

Based on the latest information, January of 2018 is the earliest date that your plan might change. Even then, our hope is that any changes to your plan would be minor. We’re working to ensure that Community members keep the plans they like, and we look forward to continuing to serve your health coverage needs.

I’ve heard that the individual mandate might go away. Why should I keep paying for coverage?

The individual mandate, which requires most people to have health insurance, is still the law, so we encourage you to stay insured. Your coverage protects you from the high costs of medical emergencies—you can’t predict when you might get sick or injured. It also makes it easier for you to get the care you need. And it can save you from having to pay a possible penalty in the future for going without insurance.
